An international expert commission of dermatologists in atopic dermatitis research recorded both the importance and requirements for optimized atopic dermatitis clothing in consensus papers (guidelines) as early as 1999. This shows that mechanical irritation factors (e.g. rough, scratchy fiber ends) and chemical irritation factors should be avoided: fiber material, yarn, surface, finishing and cut design as well as the sliding behavior of the underwear on the skin - and under conventional outer clothing - are important parameters in the development of optimized clothing systems for diseased skin.
For this reason, textiles worn close to the body must be chosen very carefully by those affected. Recommendations for buying suitable clothing for neurodermatitis can be found primarily on the Internet, many of which are scientifically dubious. Such recommendations are usually based on experience and not on scientifically sound results. For example, natural fibers are recommended, i.e. pure cotton - preferably "organic" - silk, linen and hemp. Wool and new wool are not recommended due to the roughness of the fibers.

The fibers of the FG02/60Z series, further developed by HAMED and tailored to the manufacturing process, are antibacterial, suitable for allergy sufferers, do not produce microplastic abrasion and are the basis for previously unknown usage properties and unique wearing comfort.

The Hohenstein Institute is a renowned research and service facility originally based in Bönnigheim. Textiles such as bedding and clothing are tested there. In addition, research is carried out in other laboratories in Europe, Asia and the USA. Textiles and chemical substances are tested as part of the research at the Hohenstein Institute. In addition to clothing, bedding and toys, detergents and washing equipment are also tested. The fit of clothing and the quality are also examined as part of the tests.
